What is new in codeBeamer 20.11-LTS (Carmen)

Announcing codeBeamer ALM's latest version 20.11! This new release brings a range of updates for better usability, technical & performance improvements, and enhanced integrations! Read on to learn more.

Version highlights

  • Test execution customization with Test Steps fields
  • Build dynamic logic into forms with “mandatory If”
  • Horizontal and vertical view panels for more efficiency
  • CI workflow automation for Jenkins
  • Usability updates: Filtering & moving items
  • Better reporting with cBQL Word templates & PDF exporting

Test execution configuration with Test Steps fields

When conducting testing using codeBeamer ALM, QA teams now benefit from greater granularity. Test Management now supports custom Test Steps fields, letting you define additional test step properties during test case definition or test execution. A good example of why this is useful: you can now add a dedicated evidence fields that testers can use during test runs to upload evidence for test results.

Build dynamic logic into forms with “mandatory If”

When configuring trackers, you can now easily define special conditions to make certain fields mandatory. Supported across the system, these new “Mandatory If” fields are dependent on other fields (e.g. become mandatory when another field is changed).

Horizontal and vertical view panels for more efficiency

Significant updates to the table view add usability improvements throughout codeBeamer ALM. You can now customize the table view by selecting horizontal or vertical panels, enabling a quick overview and easy editing of work items. Comments may now be added using the horizontal details panel mode. The table view now enables the editing of work item summaries and descriptions using an in-place editor. The order of columns and other view settings in table view are now automatically maintained throughout your current session, without having to save your settings as a new view.

CI workflow automation for Jenkins

Jenkins jobs can now be triggered by workflow transitions, greatly simplifying process automation. For instance, when a bug transitions to a predefined status, this can automatically trigger the start of a Jenkins job containing automated test cases, saving QA effort and making sure no testing activities are missed.

Usability updates: Filtering & moving items

Starting with codeBeamer ALM 20.11, we’ve added new filters for associations in Reports. In cases where instead of references, you’re simply using associations to establish relations between your work items, this feature helps define a dependence tree. For better project monitoring, reports now also support filtering for groups, roles, or members. This update enables you to filter for groups that certain tasks were assigned to.

When moving items, you can now simply specify where you’d like those items moved to by defining parent work items. This update unlocks efficiencies in the management of multiple artifacts.

Better reporting with cBQL Word templates & PDF exporting

Sophisticated MS Word report templates can now be created using the cBQL query language in the MS Word template. This powerful new feature lets you easily generate complex custom reports that are not limited to data in a single tracker. We’ve also updated the PDF export feature, which from this version on relies on MS Word.
