Wiki - Text is Copied with Styling in Chrome Browser
Description
In Chrome, when copying the published content of a field and pasting it into another wikitext field, its styling gets copied alongside with the text.
For example, the copied content may appear:
- Having light blue background:
- Or, surrounded by a single table cell:
Observed on
- codebeamer 22.04 (FELICITY)
- Google Chrome
- MS Edge (chromium-based)
Solution
Workarounds available:
- Instead of copying from the published text, open the relevant text field for editing in Rich text or Markup mode, and copy the text.
- Paste it in the same mode into the target wikitext field:
- right click ► Paste as Plain Text
- or, use Ctrl + Shift + V key combination on the keyboard to paste.
By default, Chrome keeps the styling when pasting content. This is the expected behavior, resulting from a feature by Chrome and chromium-based browsers, like MS Edge.
According to this feature, by default, the content styling is kept while copying it into other text fields of any applications, like codebeamer, but also MS Word, LibreOffice Writer, etc.
