1.1Work Time Management

1.1.1Recording work time spent on issues

Starting with release 6.0, CodeBeamer allows to record working time spent on issues per

• User
• Day
• Issue
• Kind (of Work)
• Activity

The work log is stored in an extra Timekeeping tracker, that will be available out of the box for new projects (See Creating and Customizing Trackers how to add time tracking to existing projects).

The time recording function will be available, if

• The Time Recording option is licensed, and
• An issue tracker is associated with a tracker of type Time Recording, e.g. the default Timekeeping tracker, and
• The Aggregation Rule of the Spent Effort field in this tracker is Sum/Total:
  
  
  
  
• The current user has Edit permission for Spent Effort in the current issue status:
  
  
  
  
• The current user has Add Issue permission on the Time Recording tracker.

The time recording option (if active) will be visualized as a Clock Icon with a Plus sign in the Spent Effort field on the issue details screen:





Clicking on the Plus Icon will popup a time recording dialog for the current user and issue:






In this dialog, you can enter your Spent Effort (at the specified Date) including the Kind (classification/categorization) and description of your Activity:

• The Date is preset to the current date, but you can backdate your time recordings up to 90 days, in case you had forgotten or were not able to log your work in the past.
  But you cannot date ahead your time recordings beyond the current day.
• You can enter the Spent Effort either as hh:mm, e.g. 0:30 is 30min, same as 30min, 1:15h is 1h and 15min, or as a hours decimal, e.g. 1.5 is 1.5h, equivalent to 1:30h.
• The estimation of your Remaining Effort is optional.

The middle section of the dialog shows the current work Estimate, the Actual Work total and the total effort Personally recorded by the current user on this issue before.

If you had already recorded work on this issue before, then the bottom section of the dialog will show your Latest recorded activities in descending order:

As long as the time recordings are only recorded and not booked yet, you can still modify and even remove recordings (only CB-10.0 and newer).

1.1.2Reporting work time spent on issues

You can retrieve reports about time spent by users on issues in multiple ways.

1.1.2.1Work Log tab on the issue details screen

In CB-10.0 and newer, if there exist time recordings for an issue, there is an extra Work Log tab on the issue details screen:




The Work Log shows all users, that have recorded work on this issue, including:

• The working period From / Until
• The total Spent effort (by this user on this issue)
• The estimated Remaining effort (of this user on this issue)

You can expand the work summary of a user, to see the individual work log items (time recordings):

If these are your own work log items, and as long as they are only recorded and not booked yet, you can still modify and even remove items.

1.1.2.2Via the "Resolved Time Recordings for Subject" view in the "References" tab of an issue (only CB-9.0 and older)

Project Admins can see the time recordings of all project members on this issue, other members can at least see their own recordings (dependent on the permission settings).

Project Admins can see and edit the time recordings of all project members, other members can at least see and edit their own recordings (dependent on the permission settings).
